Can't import messages from OE 6 to OL 2003 - error??

James

When I try to import my mail and addresses from Outlook
Express 6 to Outlook 2003 I get the following error:

"The mail folder could not be opened. If another
application is using this file, please close it and try
again."

I have copied the .dbx files from another computer to my
new computer - so Outlook Express is not running and not
using the files. In fact, I have not even set up Outlook
Express on the new computer because I want to use Outlook
2003... What application could be using the files?
How can I import my messages?
Thanks!

So there's the problem. You must import the files into Outlook Express
BEFORE you can import them into Outlook.

because I want to use Outlook

So I have to set up OE on the new box eventhough I don't
want to use it at all -- just so I can import the files
into OE and then import them into OL?
There is no way to just import the files from OE on one
box to OL on another?

That's correct - but you don't have to set up an email account, just import
the files. And as OE is an integral part of IE which in turn is an integral
part of XP (presumably that is your OS) then you can't uninstal it anyway.

You guys were totally correct! Once I imported the dbx
files into OE on the new box I could import them into OL.
Thanks very much for your help!
