can't hear modem dialing

i am unable to hear my modem as it's dialing to establish
an internet connection. this only happened after i had
to run the system's recovery disk. it's very frustrating
b/c all my configurations are working properly. can
anyone explain what my problem may be?

maybe the restore got rid of your modem and you have to
reinstall it. check for drivers for it on the
manufacturers website or try adding it through the
add\remove hardware wizard
