Can't get XPP to boot?

Hi all,

My XPP machine started doing the automatic reboot dance
when it hit the MUP.SYS file. I read that I could disable
this by booting to the cdrom and typing in "disable mup" at
the recovery console. Problem is when I do this it says that
I have a corrupted registry and to boot to "last known good
configuration". If I try that, the computer just reboots with
no error messages. What else should I try before reformating
and starting over?

thanks,
charles......
