Can't get to one website

I have an older computer using Win Me, IE 6 SP1, dial-up cxn.

I recently bought a new computer having Win XP, a new, fast machine and I'm
using Comcast cable with it. It uses Windows XP Media Center Edition,
Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Browser is Internet Explorer 6.0 SP@
There is a website we use often that I can reach easily on the old setup,
but with the new I just can't get to the site.
So far, in surfing the net with the new computer I seem to have no trouble
with any but this one particular site that we need to visit. My wife works
for
H&R Block and this is the site she needs to access for training programs.

http://blocknet.hrblock.com

When I try to get to it, after a half-minute or so I get the subject error
message:
"Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer"
I have tried going to Tools / Internet Options / Security and entered it as
a "Trusted Site" with a Low security level, but that doesn't change the
result.
In the suggested steps found in the Error Message it says check what
strength security is installed. Help / About IE says Cipher Strength
128-bit.

I'm hoping that one of you who understands these things can go to the site
and see if you see anything that would make it accessible to my old setup,
but not the new.

TIA, Fred

Hi,

Close Internet Explorer if it's open. Click start/run, type cmd and click
ok. From the prompt, run

ipconfig /flushdns

Close the command prompt and retry accessing the site.

Hi Rick "Nutcase",

That worked like a charm !!!!!

I didn't think it was going to because when I did what you said
I got this message "'ipigconfig' is not recognized as an internal or
external command, operable program or batch file"

I closed the command prompt and tried the site anyway and it worked !!!

A little panic set in then, when I couldn't seem to get to ANY websites
except my homepage.
I rebooted the system and now everything if fine.

My wife thanks you and I thank you.
Happy Thanksgiving, .... Fred

Hi Fred,

You're welcome. Also, you typed it in wrong, ipconfig not ipigconfig, which
is why you got the error message.

Sorry about that.. I wonder why it worked even tho' I goofed the command.

Not to worry. "What works ... works.
I'm going to try it on my wife's notebook now as that was behaving the same
way.

Hey Rick,

Hate to be a pest, but reading your first reply again I now wonder if I was
supposed to type in "runipconfig/flushdns"

if so, I left the "run" out of the command also.

Thanks, Noel

If I have to use this again I'll be sure to type it that way.

The correct command is

(in the Start|Run data entry box - or after opening a CMD window)

IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS

(hit the [Enter] key)

case doesn't matter - but having a space in the right place does!
