cant get rid of error message, ideas?

I had a problem with IE6 which after reinstalling i was finally able to
correct thru some mucking around in the registry. however now i have this
error message '
'Outlook Express 6 has been removed from your computer. Do you want to
remove personalized settings?',

each time i log in, ie, just after boot process is complete, as user
settings are being loaded. i've tried resetting web settings and
reconfirming ie as default browser and oe as default mail program to no
avail. any ideas what i must do to get rid of this message?
