cant get passed windows XP Pro screen

I started with a new hard drive, began to run the windows XP instalation cd. Began to run through set up, got to there are 39 mins to complete setup. Then setup failed and began to reboot system. This happened a few times failing at points where there was 7 mins left and 10 mins left. Now the problem is that when booting up, the windows splash screen appears , then get a quick error-" a write operations was attempted to a volume after it was dismounted" then system reboots itself
Can anyone help? This is being loaded on a Compaq Presario 2700, if that is helpful.

Install xp cd,restart computer,boot to cd,recovery,press enter for password,at cmd screen
type:DiskPart Delete partitions,then esc to main screen,type:FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs
When its thru type:EXIT Let it restart,then boot to xp cd,install xp.
