unable to install xp-pro sp2

I have win2k-pro on my system. I installed a new disk drive and purchased an
xp-pro upgrade. I ran xp setup and told it to perform a new install, because
I want to install it onto the new drive without touching the existing win2k
drive. It began by cpying all the install files onto the new drive, rebooting
the pc and 2 options came up "start xp install" and "win2k-pro". I chose
"start xp install" and it began the install process. It detected both drives.
I told it to install xp onto the new drive and format the new drive with
NTFS. It took 25 mins to format the drive, afterwhich it started copying
files onto it. It got stuck at "setup cannot copy the file: bottvid.dll" and
I had to abort.
Please help!

Hi

Is that the correct spelling of the file?

Sorry, my mistake. The file in question is bootvid.dll.

I also have just performed a chkdsk on my c: drive (where win2k-pro is
installed) which took nearly 1 hr to complete. I then rebooted and restarted
the xp install, firstly deletting the d: partition on the new drive and
reformatting it with NTFS. I chose to do the "slow" format which took approx
25 mins to complete. It then re-attempted the copying files process but again
stopped at bootvid.dll! I pressed "skip" and it immediately stopped at the
next file. Help.

I am having same problem. I was trying to upgrade from Windows ME. I was
able to start reboot in safe mode with log. I received an error showing
Page_Fault_IN_Nonpaged_Area. After that I had errors stating with
descriptions of C:\WINDOWS\IFSHLP.SYS and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD. Now I
have a computer that can't find an OS. Just starting to find how to fix.
