Can't find the Firewall setting in XP Pro

I am having some trouble trying to locate my firewall settings. The
help file and posts suggest the following:

My Computer > My
Network Places>View network connections>select (highlight) your net
connection. Do a right-click> select Properties>click on ADVANCED
Tab. See
status of check box labeled Internet Connection Firewall.
If it is clear>then it is off. To turn on, click (or press space
bar) to
turn it on.

The trouble is I don't have the ADVANCED tab??

My set up is as follows:

AMD XP 1900
Windows XP Pro
Cable Modem
Linksys hub / router
Realtek NIC

Anybody else had this or know the answer?

Neville, see if this helps
To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Network Connections.
Local Area Connection should be showing. rt click on it and select
Prop>Advanced

The OP said he HASN'T GOT an Advanced tab.

You are looking to turn on XP's built-in firewall?
Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network - double-click applet to get Local
Area Network info. You should see icons for all the network
connections; i.e., your nic, your dial-up modem if you have one,
firewire connector, etc. Right-click the nic icon and left-click
Properties. Choose the Advanced tab to get to firewall settings.

Check in Admin tools - Services to make sure that the Internet
Connection Firewall service is Started. If not, double click it, set
startup type to Automatic and Apply. then click Start

I have tried this and there is no "ADVANCED" Tab.

Also looked at trying to install windows components and there isn't an
option under Networking for the firewall??

Any more ideas out there please...

What type of account are you logged in as. I don't know how XP limits user
accounts for this feature but if you aren't logged on as an admin, you may
want to give that a whirl.
