Can't find the file that contains the "address book" database.

Is MS Outlook also installed?

Try searching on *wab.* instead.

Johansen.wab~ is the automatic back-up maintained by Windows. You'll find
that it's been recreated.

In WinXP, Win2K and Win2K03, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show
Hidden Files and Folders under Start > Control Panel > Folder Options >
View.

Have done a system wide search on "*.wab". Came up with "C:\Documents and
Settings\Johansen\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\Johansen.wab".
Have done a search on ".wab" in the registry. Have come up with the same
thing.

Have opened the Address Book and added a new name "zzzz-x". Have gone to
"C:\Documents and Settings\Johansen\Application Data\Microsoft\Address
Book\Johansen.wab". Have double clicked the file and opened it in Address
Book. The address book is empty.

Have done a system wide search on any file containing the string "zzzz-x".
Have come up with nothing.

I even changed the contents of the address book, then sorted the entire
contents of the disk by date and time. There were two files whose time had
changed at the designated time. One was file "Johansen.wab" in the
requisite directory. I double clicked it to open it in address book. It
was empty! The other was a file named "Johansen.wab~" in the same
directory. I changed this files name to "Johansen0.wab" and opened it. It
also was empty!

Please help me find the file that contains the database for address book.
Among other things I want to back it up.

When you do get it sorted always backup your address book by OE - export -
address book - other ab - comma separated - into my documents. Then if you
have to you can import easily into XP and even into Vista.

Windows automatically maintains a backup of Address Book (name.wab~). More
