Can't find "Scandisc"

A

Andy I.

Hi,

I've recently converted from WIN 98SE to WIN XP Home.
Before Defragging in WIN 98SE, I would use "Scandisk". Is "Scandisk" on WIN
XP Home? I can't seem to find it.

ScanDisk doesn't exist in Windows XP. It is now called CHKDSK. Click the
Start button>all programs>accessories>command prompt. In the command prompt
type: chkdsk
You can also access chkdsk like you used to in Windows 98 etc by Right
clicking on your hard drive in My Computer and selecting properties. click
on the Tools tab and click the 'check now' button under error checking.

There is no scandisk. Windows XP, like all versions of Windows NT, uses the
name chkdsk instead.

WinXP does not have a program called "Scandisk," as this was a
Win9x/Me program. Instead, because WinXP is descended from the WinNT/2K
OS family, it has a command line utility called "Chkdsk," which performs
much better.

Start > Run > Cmd > Chkdsk.exe /? for the correct syntax and
available options.

Alternatively, double-click My Computer > right-click the desired
hard drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking/Check Now. This will
run Chkdsk, normally on the next reboot.
