Can't Find Root Hubs

G

Guest

I cannot get the Device Manager to display the tab for Power Management and
thus cannot see the USB Root Hubs.
I'd like to uncheck the box "allow the computer to turn off the device to
save power".
I have set the View to display hidden devices.
I recently had my BIOS and MB drivers updated by a professional.

I have purchased three CH Products for flying (Combatstick, ProThrottle, and
Pedals) and the computer keeps dropping my stick after a while. I have
changed USB ports and do not use the ports on the motherboard as there is a
known conflict with Via chips and CH Products (the reason for the Belkin PCI
card - NEC chipsets).

I have even sent the stick back to CH, who tell me it is working correctly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try this.

USB Root Hub is under Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Open Device Manager...
Start | Run | Type: devmgmt.msc | Click OK |
Clear down to the bottom click the [+] for Universal Serial Bus Controllers
|
Double click USB Root Hub | Click the Power Management tab | UNCheck:
Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power | Click OK |
Close Device Manager

Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power
[[Specifies whether the operating system turns off the selected device if
that device is able to be turned off. If the device is busy doing something,
however, (servicing a call, for example), the operating system will not shut
down the device. The operating system will try to shut down every possible
device only when it is hibernating. Some devices must stay on at all times.
If you need the device to stay on at all times, do not check this box.]]

The USB Root Hub should not be Hidden.

Thank you for the response. I see the same thing I do when I go in through
the Control Panel... no root hubs. They are not displayed. There is no
power management tab.

TB,

It does not matter how Device Manger is opened.

You might want to read *all* of the articles mentioned here.

[[In Device Manager, USB game controllers are listed under Human Interface
devices (in Devices by type view). If the controller does not appear in
Device Manager, then USB may not be enabled in BIOS or EFI When you are
prompted as you start your computer, enter BIOS or EFI setup, and enable
USB.

• If USB is enabled in BIOS or EFI but the USB host controller does not
appear in Device Manager (under Universal Serial Bus controllers), or a
yellow warning icon appears next to the host controller name, then the
version of BIOS or EFI may be outdated. Contact the maker or vendor for your
computer and obtain the current version of BIOS or EFI.

• If the controller appears in Device Manager, right-click the controller
name and then click Properties. Problems and suggested actions are displayed
under Device status.

USB ports have a separate entry in Device Manager. To check the device
status, click Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click USB Root Hub,
and then click Properties. If you do not see USB Root Hub, you might not
have a USB port installed on your computer. ]]

What does this professional that you presumably paid have to say about this?
