Cant find NEWS

B

Butch Cassidy

I had the menu option "NEWS" on my standard toolbar so that I can go to the
newsgroups. I attempted to move NEWS to another menu and lost it. I looked
in every menu for it and I tried to put it back again but I cannot find it
even when I go through the normal route of adding buttons, going to
configuration and then to the GO Menu. Nowhere is there to find the NEWS
menu choice. I even re-installed Outlook. Help!!!

What version of Outlook?

In Outlook 2003 right-click the toolbar, choose Customize. Go to the "GO"
group and you'll find News about 2/3rds of the way down the list. Even if
you've already placed it on a toolbar or menu bar it will appear there.

Did this solve it for you?
If not... i.e. the NEWS button has completely gone from your CUSTOMIZE menu
bar options... then you have a different issue that many with Outlook 2003
have experienced.

That being the case, go into OE... Take a look at the OPTIONS in TOOLS.
On the GENERAL tab... Does it indicate that "This application is the deafult
NEWS handler" ? ?

If "Yes"... then this is most likely the problem.
If OE is set to be the default news handler then the NEWS option vanishes
from Outlook 2003.

Now... here's the "bad" news... I had this same problem (as have many
others) but I actually can't remember how I fixed it.
I know that using either a direct registry edit or an XP TWEAK program I
managed to turn OFF the OE as default News reader setting.
I think I also TURNED on OUTLOOK as default news reader.
Then the button reappeared.
THen the next time I used it OE lunched (in Newsreader mode) and AGAIN asked
"Do you want to set OE as default Newsreader". YOU MUST ANSWER NO to this.
Then everything continues to work fine from that point on.

I will try to figure out how I did the reset in the first place. I have also
posted a msg asking how to do that (without Reg editing or TWEAK program).

BUT do let me know if you solved this matter asap... before I spend to long
working out how I solved it.

Jonathan
