For some reason I can not find the MsJava. Could someone please take me
through the steps to find out what java I am using? I went to control panel
and looked there and it says to use my current default settings, but don't
really understand what it means.

I also get from the MS KB that java is not down loadable any longer, so
would it be on my cd? Or how would I get it?

I hope I am making sense. Thanks for any help you can offer me.

Court order required MS to drop Java.

You can get Java from Sun at www.java.com

Hi

Take a look at this post by Jim Byrd to get some information on how to add
MS JVM to your OS installation::

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

If you are running Windows XP with no MS JVM installed, start with
installing v. 3805 (disregard that the post say Win2000 SP4, it will
install on WinXP as well).

Oh my...thank you to everyone!

To answer the first reply, I did try the run thing and just got a bad commad
message.

I will give the rest a shot and post back how it went.

Greetings --

As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing
settlement, Microsoft is no longer allowed to provide its own Java
Virtual Machine to Windows users. You can get almost the same
functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the broader
capabilities of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still
available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, some of which are listed
here: http://www.java-virtual-machine.net/download.html.

If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to visit Windows
Update to apply a needed security patch.

Start - Run - WJVIEW
If that runs and tells you the Java engine version, you have it.

The ruling in the case brought by Sun prohibits MS from making 'their'
engine available as a download

You can still get a 3805 or 3809 build from some sites that are *not*
MSoft sites - and MSoft is not going to object.
eg 3805 from Http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/msjavx86.exe

Once you have such an older version you can get the 816093 'critical
security update' which is effectively a complete build, 3810
