can't fill with background color

could someone please help me? i am trying to highlight rows and columns
and/or cells within my excel 2003 spreadsheets. it worked fine in 2000, but
not in my newly-installed 2003. the function button appears as tho it should
work, but nothing happens. just clear cells.

i can copy / paste the worksheet onto a word doc and it shows the color i
was trying to apply to the excel cells! ??? but when i try to copy/paste
back, again, all cells are without background color. what gives? thanks
much for any help.

Hi,

The function button doesn't color cell, it lauches the function wizard. To
color a cell open the Fill Color drop down and pick a color (looks like a
paint can) or choose Format, Cells, Patterns...
