Can't empty Recycle bin

I got two Adobe Illustrator files (.ai) in the Recycle bin and they stay
there, no matter what I do. Can't neither restore them nor delete them. The
message I get is:

"Cannot delete Dc4: It is being used by another person or program. Close
any programs that might be using the file and try again."

One file is called "Dc4" and the other "Dc6", but these are not the actual
filenames. I don't know where these names come from.

They are moved to Recycle bin from the Desktop, so it's not a problem with
removable drives.

I have tried to close all the applications running, using the Task Manager,
but still can't delete them.

What else can be done?

Problem solved. I needed to close down one of them svdhost.exe apps
running.

Deleting .ai and .eps files from recycle bin

Hi all, I have been having exactly the same problem for ages, but have now found two solutions.
Solution 1 - install a free "file Shredder" programme and use this instead of Recycle Bin to delete files - trouble is remembering to do this so
Solution 2 - re-boot computer and "hover" your mouse over the recycle bin. IMEDIATELY this becomes active RIGHT CLICK and hit "Empty Recycle Bin" I have no idea why or how this works, but can only assume that if you do it BEFORE the system thinks someone else is using the files it allows you to empty the bin!
Happy deleting
