Can't Empty Recycle bin

J

Jean

I have 24 Adobe Photoshop files (.psd) that I can't empty
from the recycle bin. I get a message with a file number
like "Dd456" or "Dc5" that they can not be deleted as they
are being used by another program or person. This is not
my file name or number and there are no programs open. I
have done a search for some of the files and they don't
show up anywhere. It also will not restore the file if I
ask. I have deleted other .psd files with no problem. I
am running Windows XP Professional and Photoshop 6. Can
anyone help me with this problem? Thanks.

Sounds like your recycle bin is messed up. The wierd file names are the
names that the recycle bin gives your files when they are put in there. It
keeps an index of all the files, their real names, and previous locations.
You should be able to just load My Computer, double-click C:, then click the
"Recycler" folder once, hold SHIFT, and press DELETE. If you have Norton
Pretecting the recycle bin, you must disable it first. After this folder is
delete, windows will recreate it. The icon may not be correct (it may be
showing you have something in there when you really don't), so just stick a
file in there and then restore it, and the icon will be fixed. If this
solution didn't work, then you have to do it in a command prompt with
explorer closed, which is a tad bit more complicated. I'll explain it to you
if you need me to.
