Can't edit registry key????

Guest

Hi folks, I discovered that I could not write or modify the following key....
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt ...when I
first try to install Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 and received an error about
unable to write to the above key. Now I have noticed that on my right click
menu I still have options for programs that I uninstalled. Back the registry
key to see if I could delete the entries manually only to be reminded that I
cannot edit/modify the above key!!!! I have checked the permissions and all
seems fine and as this is a home computer and I have no user accounts I am
already logged in as Admin. Can anyone shed any light on this matter for me
as it is pushing me to the bottle (if you know what I mean ;) ) Thanks in
advance

Hi tracker,

The default account is not usually administrator but rather "default user"
or some such set up by the manufacturer. In XP Home the admin account is not
accessed in normal mode, but rather safe mode only. Click start/run, type
%userprofile% and click ok, see what folder it opens to. This is the user
account that you are currently logging into and also is the one that needs
full control of that registry key in order to make the necessary changes.
