Can't edit registry key

I try to edit a registry key ZA made to autostart (want to add a
parameter). But regedit says it can't write back the new value. I have
checked the rights, and I have write access to the key and value.

How have they done this? And how do I get passed to change the value?

I don't use ZA but doesn't it start as a service? If so, go to Control
Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Find the service for ZA in the
list, right click on it and select Properties. On the General tab of
the Properties for the service you can specify start parameters.

zonealarm uses a service (and device driver too) which is run by system
account, so system account needs write permissions to that registry key.
some antivirus and antispyware tools propably have guard against someone
changing critical registry keys. maybe you have such guard active and that
prevents you changing values. check also event viewer for any related log
messages. one way to track the problem is to get registry monitor from
www.sysinternals.com. it shows all registry activity and should show what
registry key is changed and what was result.
