can't drag/drop files

Suddenly my son's XP computer won't drag'n'drop.

Attempting to drag an object from one folder to another,
to copy or move a file for instance has no effect - the
file stays where it was. Can still 'Send To' etc.

He is the sole user as admin with no p/w.
 
Try re-registering ole32.dll (object linking and embedding)
Go to Start > Run and enter regsvr32 ole32.dll
