Hi Patrick
Here are a few more items I thought of you should check.
Try resetting your security to Medium if it is on High, or to Low if set to
Medium and see it that helps.
If you have McAfee, uncheck the Active X button in that.
Also, there are some types of warez that can cause this type of problem. If
you have not run the following programs, then please download, install and
run them. Be sure to update the SpyBot and AdAware before running to be sure
they have the latest definitions. There has been a recent update for
AdAware for some of the recent variations of some adware. If you have
already run any of them. please update and run them again to be sure there
are no hidden files lingering. Be sure to reboot before running them as
well. Sometimes they can try to hide by seeming to be ;in use', so this way
they will not be associated with any files in use. Please report back the
results.

You can check the following concerning ActiveX components trying to reach
defunct servers. If these particular ones don't show up, check for any
other anomalous entries:
Take a look in %SYSTEMDRIVE%\%SystemRoot%\Downloaded Program Files (these
are ActiveX components), and see if you have something there called Tracker
Class. If so, right click and click Remove (don't just delete it). This is
a hi-jack program that's trying to reach a server that's no longer working,
so it hangs up.
There are some others that are similar in effect also, so if you don't have
Tracker Class, right click on each thing in this folder then select
Properties. The Codebase line will often give you a clue as to where
something came from. If it looks like it might not belong, try Remove.
Things like Sun Java Runtimes and Macromedia stuff like Shockwave or Apple
Quicktime are normal, so use some judgement about what you eliminate.
Mostly you'll be asked to re-download them if you Remove something that's
actually needed.
Also check in Add-Remove Programs for Surfchoice 1.1 and remove it. It is
also tracker software to a defunct server.
Additonal important information about removing ActiveX controls is in the
following Microsoft articles:

Check your HOSTS file to be sure the sites you want to access are not in
there being blocked.
How to check HOSTS file
Windows/host (it will not have an extension, and if there is more than one,
choose the one that says Application in a column to the right) . Right click
on it and select Open with.....when the window opens, scroll down the list
to Notepad. Once it opens in Notepad, scoll down the list to see if that
site is in the list. If so, DO NOT delete it, just go to the very front of
the line to the left and enter # in front of the line so that it looks
similar to the one below, as the entries with # in front will be ignored.
# Entries with other comments are searchable via Google.
Then click the save button and close. Then try the site again.
For more information on the HOSTS file check here

Hope this helps.
