First off - I have applied every single update available from Office
Update, I'm using a legal copy that I *paid for*, and this is extremely
frustrating because I can't get to my mail!!!

I've been having this problem in Outlook where I can't download all my
email at once (because they usually number in the thousands). If I try,
then Outlook simply crashes. However, I can usually get around this by
downloading the headers first, marking 1000 or so of them for download, and
processing those, repeating this for each of the remaining thousands. I
have plugins SpamBayes and AVG AntiVirus, but they have been there long
before the crashes started happening.

Unfortunately, after a long summer out of state, I now come back to find
26110 messages on my server. So, I downloaded the headers, but now, I can't
process any of them without seeing Outlook crash - even after marking only
a single (or zero!) headers for download. As for the plugins, I've already
disabled both, to no avail. What should I do? Please help, I would
appreciate any tips tremendously!!!

I just ran scanpst.exe on my pst...didn't work.

I then ran Detect and Repair...didn't work.

I'm hoping to avoid a complete reinstall for now....

And you will continue to wither since you posted no useful information.

Why did you have to run scanpst.exe? What was the original problem? What
version of Outlook and how big is your .pst file?

Sorry, you're right, those are important details:

I'm running Outlook 2003 on Win XP. My .pst is 369,041k. I just ran
scanpst 'cause I had no idea what else I can do.

My original problem is still the same as described in my original post:
Outlook crashes when I try to retrieve my mail from the server. I'm
stuck with 26110 headers and no way to download a single one without it
suddenly crashing whenever I attempt.

Currently what I'm doing is downloading the mail using Outlook on
another client (which doesn't seem to be having this issue). Then I'm
going to import those messages to my PST. Once I've imported everything,
I'll clear out the mail from the server.

What I'm wondering at this point is how to delete the actual headers
(not simply mark them for server-side deletion...again, processing those
headers causes Outlook). I want to actually delete them because I'll
have imported them from another .pst. Any thoughts on this (or my
approach in general)?

What type of account are you using? IMAP? Exchange? Have you tried
creating a new mail profile?

It's a regular POP account. Other mail profiles (with lower volumes)
work fine, just not this one.

Although I'm also interested in hearing what solutions exist for my
original problem, I think that if I can just clear this out, it should
be fine again. So, I'm just wondering how I can actually removed these
downloaded headers. (Hitting delete simply marks them for server-side
deletion.)
