Can't display thumbnails of pictures

I am using Windows XP Professional Version 5.1 Build 2600 with Service Pack 2.
I used to be able to display thumbnails of pictures in folders in My
Pictures which would I would then open with Fax and Picture Viewer. For no
reason, pictures just showed as the logo for jpg, tiff etc and fax and
picture viewer disappeared. Have downloaded RAW image viewer and all
existing photos on my PC show as thumbnails again and open with RAW image but
... all new pictures I save to the PC only show as jpg logos etc. I'm not
knowledgeable about how programs work but do a lot of work with photos and
need my thumbnails back! Help pls!!

Good Day,

try thi; fing a file with the extention of .jpg, next single right click it
then single left "open with", single left choose propram, select the program
internet explorer then put a check mark on "Always use the selected program
to open this kind of file" then click OK now try it again.

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Generic icon is displayed for a picture file when in Thumbnail view

I tried it too, but it didn't help.
Can My Pictures show thumbnails for *.psd files?
