Can't disable device control

I'm trying to capture video using pass through from my old Hi-8 camera via a
Panasonic digital camera.

Everything seems to work - I can see the video on the Movie Maker screen -
but when I start capture I get the error message that there is no tape in the
camera (i.e the one being used to pass-through).

I know I need to diable device control in Movie Make but can't find out how.
Is it possible? Or is there another solution?

in my Sony DV camcorder, I had to go into the menu and enable DV-in

Can't find an equivalent in my Panasonic NV-GS400. but thanks! Can't I
switch off the device controls in Movie Maker?
