We have abou 80 XP machines tied to a Windows 2000
server. A few months back, we set up all the computers in
the office to automatically download all updates and
install them via Automatic Updates. All our users are
limited users and therefore they're forced to reboot
within 5 minutes of the updates being installed.
Last week we installed Software Update Service on the 2000
server, so we no longer need or want the individual
workstations to check for updates on the Windows Update
site. When I go into the System properties (as the domain
admin), the option is grayed out and I can not turn
Automatic Updates off.
Is this normal or is this a glitch? Does anyone know for
sure? I'm guessing maybe they look to the SUS server now
and need to have this option turned on permanently, but I
want to know for sure this isn't going to cause additional
problems in the future.
