This is not working for me. I'm very unhappy with Windows Vista.

VERY.

Try repairing the database with WMUtil from www.oehelp.com

There are two copies of WindowsMail.MSMessageStore, One in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail
and one in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup\New
If you delete both of these the database will be rebuilt. However, while no
messages should be lost, some may be downloaded again and you may lose some
record of which have been read. I recommend that you only do this when they
are causing you trouble, like when they are in the Outbox. Otherwise I now
just mark them as read and ignore them.

I am having this same problem. If someone gets back to you with a solution,
can you email it to me also? Thanks!
Jill

Hi Steve

Any updates on your suggestions?
Still can't delete one email from my "junk folder" from of all senders,
COSTCO.

Many thanks

Some have suggested highlighting the message and pressing Alt, E then Y.
Haven't had a chance to test it myself.

Someone said go to Edit | Find for the particular folder and then you can
delete the results of the search that way.

I just tried this with a message in my Outbox and it didn't work - got the
same error. Sorry! I'd love a solution that doesn't require me to delete and
recreate the user name - I'm concerned about making a mistake that will cause
me to lose my extensive message archives. Looks like I'll have to take the
risk though ...

This appears to permanently delete everything in the deleted messages folder.
It would only help if that were where the problem lies I would think. In my
case it is the Outbox, which is the worst place since it blocks all outgoing
mail from being sent.

It appears that the ones stuck in the Outbox are much harder
to remove than ones stuck in other folders.

You won't lose any messages if you first drag a copy of the
....\AppData\...\Windows Mail directory to somewhere else,
such as to the Desktop or Documents.

This is the first time that I have received this message. I tried to mark it
as Read and then tried to delete but it still won't let me delete. Any other
suggestions? Thanks.

Another one of my e-mails from yesterday came up today with the error message
and it can't be deleted. I know you say just to ignore them, but after you
have like 10 in your inbox and keep getting them out of the blue it gets a
little frustrating. Please find a patch soon......I have gotten rid of my
e-mail scanners and I am still getting them. One day they are fine and the
next day can't be deleted. I find myself deleting messages right away if at
all possible. I am just waiting and hoping for a fix to this frustrating
problem.

Has anyone with this problem gone into the message store and deleted
all the 0 byte entries? (Make sure Windows Mail is closed first.)

I have been doing this on a daily basis for about a week now, and I have
had no ill effects.

I also have the compacting option set for every time I close Windows Mail.

I just got this new puter 2 weeks ago. It has taken me forever to get it to
work with all of my peripherals and to get my Treo to sync with it.....which
btw it does not sync with WinMail and that sucks. NOW, I have to wipe myself
out and rebuild again?

Have you seen the new MAC commercial where the PC's are all on a cart being
shipped away for various errors. The infamous '629' error was a favorite from
W2K. Those tv ads get funnier and funnier.....joke sort of on us, huh!

I don't know if WinMail will synch with devices.

Yeah, they are rather humorous. I just saw the last one with the "FATAL
ERROR". <G>

After reading everything here, I tried 1 thing and it worked!! I disabled
the "scan outgoing mail". I still scan incoming mail and am still using
McAfee spam filters and everything else. I can now send email, move to
folders, or delete.

I don't think you'll see a fix from Microsoft any time soon. My current
theory, and it's only a theory, is that an anti-virus is causing the problem
by deleting messages as they are saved to the hard drive even though email
scanning is turned off.

Have you tried marking the message as read and then deleting it? That's
what I've been doing and so far it has always worked. Other things:

If none of those fixes work for you or you're afraid to try them, use a
different program like Thunderbird, which is free.
