can't delete folder

On my desktop I created a folder to store some files. I
no longer needed the files, so I deleted them. THe folder
on my desktop is now empty, and I cannot delete it. If i
try to delete the folder, drag it to the recycle bin, or
cut & paste to the recycle bin, I get a message: "Cannot
Delete...Access is Denied". I tried to delete the folder
while in safe mode, and that does not work either.

Why can't I delete an empty folder?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I solved the problem myself, by using the following
method.

(1) right click on the folder, then click on PROPERTIES
(2) Click on the SHARING tab, then check the box that
says "make this folder private". Cick on OK.
(3) the computer will ask you if you want to create a
password. Click on NO.
(4) now the folder can be deleted in the usual way.

At least it worked for me.
