Can't delete executables on Vista Home basic

I created a directory under my userid and stored a program there I wanted to
try. I didn't like it and tried to delete the .exe and .dll files. Vista
won't let me, even though I am running as an Administrator. I even tried a
command line window to no avail.

I'm beginning to have a very strong dislike for Vista. MSDOS 6 was more
friendly. ;-)

Did you try to take OwnerShip of the files and then tried to delete them?
Secondly, you should make a directory in the Programs directory and put the
application there.

Oh, one other thing here today, I tried to save a document off of the
Internet which had been previously saved in my documents folder. I wanted to
replace it. I was denied access to this file. So, I right-clicked the file
assuming that it was read protected. It was not read protected.

However, I noticed the Unblock Button and clicked it, which unblocked the
file's access and I was able to save over the existing file.

Maybe, that will work for you too with deleting the file.

I don't have an Unblock Button, but I remembered that I had installed a
Vista update and had rebooted the system.

Now I can delete the files just fine.

Thanks, Keith
