cant delete any folders

I can delete files alright, but whenever
I try to delete a folder, ANY folder,
my computer freezes and windows explorer
goes to "not responding". I must then shut it
down. Can anyone explain and/or help?

Is your computer tuned up? ie no viruses, no spyware, cleaned out
windows temps, etc?
