can't delete an email

I have an email in my inbox that I can't delete. Every time I try, Outlook
locks up and won't let me do anything else, and I have to manually close out
of the program. If I delete emails before or after this email, and it
becomes the "next" one in view, Outlook also locks up. I recognize the email
sender, I've emailed with her before, and never had a problem. Suggestions?

Start Outlook one time with the /nopreview switch to turn off the preview
pane, then delete the bad message.

After furious head scratching, Jude asked:

How do I start it with the /nopreview switch? Sorry to be dumb, but I never
heard of doing this?

OK, I figured out how to do it, but it doesn't help. The minute I highlight
the email to delete it, Outlook stops responding. I tried working offline,
then deleting it, still won't work. I tried waiting until she sent me
another email, then blocking sender (temporarily) and choosing the option to
let it delete all emails by the blocked sender in my inbox. Problem is, the
second email will be deleted but then Outlook hangs up again without deleting
the original "problem" email. I even tried creating a Rule that
automatically deleted any email from the sender....and again, Outlook hangs
up when it comes to doing that, and nope, it won't get rid of that email. It
is the craziest thing I've ever seen. I ran my antivirus, I ran spyware, I
rebooted, I just don't have a clue what to try next?

A few questions:
- what version of Outlook?
- what account type (POP/SMTP, IMAP, Exchange Server)?
- is the problem message located in a .PST file?
- is there anything unusual with that message (e.g. very large)?

If the message is in a .PST file, can you try to run scanpst against
that file? (Recommend to take a backup copy before doing that).

A few questions:
- what version of Outlook? OE 6.0
- what account type (POP/SMTP, IMAP, Exchange Server)? POP/SMTP
- is the problem message located in a .PST file? How can I tell? It won't let me highlight the email and hit "Properties" without hanging up/freezing OE completely.
- is there anything unusual with that message (e.g. very large)? Again, I can see that it has no attachments, but I can't see the size of it. When I try to get "Properties" or any further info on it by highlighting it, the cursor turns into the hourglass and OE locks up until I close out by hitting the red X. Then I have to hit "End Program", and get a chance to send my 3849th error message to MS.
But I did email the newsgroup and no one else is having that problem with
her email, just lucky me. And any other emails she's sent--before this one
or after--have been no trouble at all, either.

Try something like opening your account\pst from another client besides
OE. See if it exhibits the same behavior. It's prob a corrupted
message, maybe OE cannot handle it. Try deleting it from another
client, Netscape, Thunderbird.

Thanks to all for their attempts to help. None of the suggestions worked,
but my neighbor came over and played around and somehow found the .dbx file
and renamed the Inbox.dbx file to Inbox2.dbx, then opened OE again, and it
created a new Inbox.dbx file. Then he deleted the Inbox2.dbx file, and
presto, the problem email is gone! Now I'm glad I opened my mouth and told
him exactly "what's new?", LOL!
