Can't Delete a Background on my Normal Template

Somehow, I got gray lines completely covering my blank page when I open a new
document. I have tried using "No Fill" on the background dialogue box, but
that just dumps me out of Print Layout. When I go back to print layout, the
lines are still there. These lines do not print on my documents, but they
obscure my type and are very distracting. How can I remove them or how can I
restore my original Word Normal template.

It isn't part of the Normal template, it's a setting...

If you have Word 2003 or earlier:
Display the Drawing toolbar. Click the Draw button at the left and
choose Grid. In the dialog, uncheck the option "Display gridlines on
screen" and click OK.

If you have Word 2007:
Click the View tab. Uncheck the "Gridlines" box in the Show/Hide
group.

My husband messed around with Word the other day to get familiar with it, and
when he was done (not knowing what he'd done) we had these lines on the page.
I finally finally found this post. Thank you!!! The lines are gone.
