Can't connect to XP Pro SP1

M

Martin Horton

I have XP Pro SP1 and regularly use RDP to connect FROM
the XP Pro laptop to W2K servers and everything is fine.
I mention this only to show that I am familiar with RDP
using RDP.

I am now attempting to connect from another computer on
the local network TO my XP Pro computer.

I have enabled remote connections. When I attempt to
connect I get the logon screen and fill in the data, but
when I click on OK it just hangs there. The screen on the
XP Pro computer goes blank and that is all that happens.

I can close the Remote Desktop and when I do that the
screen on the XP Pro returns to its locked state and I
can then log back on to it. However, if I try too quickly
then I get a message similar to "Unable to logon as
Windows is attempting to logon a remote user" but if I
wait this gows away.

This indicates to me that the XP Pro Host computer is
hanging while trying the logon.

The same behavior happens no matter which client computer
I try to connect from.

Does anyone have any ideas what can be going wrong?

Many thanks in advance,

Martin
