Can't Connect to Web; Suspected corrupted winsock registry

Don

My Windows XP Home edition machine can no longer connect to the web.
Although the DSL modem lights indicate a connection, I can never get a PING
response in the command prompt either with a name (ping www.yahoo.com) or a
numeric address.

After spending fruitless hours with my ISP's tech support, I suspect that my
winsock regsitry entries have become corrupt.

Can anyone give me instructions to safely delete the corrupted winsock
registry entries and install new ones?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
