Hi all,

I just reinstalled windows xp sp2 on a computer. The install is clean,
just finished, no virus, no spyware. My internet connection works
well ... appart that I can't connect to the Microsoft.com site!!!
The support.microsoft.com site works fine but not the normal www.microsoft.com
one. I can't neither connect with messenger (key ports problem...).
Neither of course activate windows...
My hosts file is clean (only one entry : 127.0.0.1 localhost).
It does appear even if I turn the firewall off.
The problem doesn't exist on a mac which i tried to conneect on the
same adsl connection.

I couldn't find any interesting information on the net. It seems to be
the same problem as the one which could appear with the MTU in a local
network (cf http://groups.google.fr/group/

+ok&rnum=2&hl=fr#42f36ba291f3e3cc). But in my case i just have 1
computer connected to the adsl modem...

Does anyone have an idea how to solve it ? Please.. i am almost
desperate.

I had this problem once, and it may have been when I upgraded to SP2.
In my case it was caused by the Google search bar. Perhaps you should
try disabling/uninstalling any add-ons you have.

Adding to Upsdell, try the below and assign the website in your trusted
sites and see if you will get access to it.
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.

HTH.
Let us know,
Regards,

Make sure you only have one firewall running.

Is the XP SP2 firewall getting a raw deal?
