Can't connect to domain

D

David Sherman

I disconnected for the domain and then tried to re-join the same
domain. Domain is accessible to other machines. I deleted the computer
and then added it again.

I have looked at this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314861
I run ipconfig /registerdns

I can't connect to a SBS2003 domain. I get the following error
message: Note: This information is intended for a network
administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify
the administrator that you received this information, which has been
recorded in the file C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service
location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for
domain HOME.DAVIDHSHERMAN.LOCAL:

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.HOME.DAVIDHSHERMAN.LOCAL

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.

- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its
child zone:

HOME.DAVIDHSHERMAN.LOCAL
DAVIDHSHERMAN.LOCAL
LOCAL
.. (the root zone)

This is the correct domain name.
The following is the correct Ip address:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Linksys NC100 Fast
Ethernet Adapt
#2
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-04-5A-45-8E-0A
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.4
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 68.252.59.254
67.36.13.26

The DNS name exists.

I can ping the server but can't access the domain controller.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Looks like the DNS server settings in IPCONFIG are wrong - they should be
pointing to the DNS server on the domain, but those look like public DNS
servers. Is 192.168.1.4 a valid IP address in your domain?

Yes, 192,168.1.4 is a valid ip address. What I have done since, I
verified that DNS was set up properly. THe internal addresses point to
local DNS of 192.168.1.2 which is the IP address of SBS 2003 server.
DHCP is also set up at this IP address. When I try to connect now, it
fainally worked. After tyoing in the sbs 2003 sever name, it finally
connected properly.

Now I have to figure why on a restart, I can't log on to the SBS 2003
server.

thnaks for your help.

Glad I could help - now what's with the other problem? What happens when
you try to log onto the server?
