cant complete dcpromo

I attempted to run dcpromo on my win2k server in order to remove AD and
start again to correct a DNS issue with clients joining domain.
After entering the user/password/domain I received a message that it cannot
contact the domain controller.
This server is the domain controller and is identified under network
identification as the domain controller.
The DNS in the tcpip properties is pointing to this server.
The forward lookup shows the IP also.
Please, your thoughts to what I'm missing. Thanks

Yes, last dc was selected. I tried it both ways even though it was the only
dc.

Since you are pulling AD, you are obviously going to have
to rebuild your user structure, etc. I would make sure I
have a good backup of applications, etc. and blow the
whole thing away and do a fresh installation of W2K,
rebuild AD, and restore from backup the
applications,data, etc.
