Can't Change the text color of the Horizontal or Vertical Nav Butt

Guest

Hello,

While I've used FrontPage 2002 (and other editions) for years, I can't for
the life of me figure this out and its DaaRIVING me nutz:

I am trying to go into the theme and change the color of the text on the
vertical and/or horizontal navigation buttons in the shared borders...and
I've tried EVERYTHING...
I seem to remember to be able to go into themes, modify, and one of the
three choices and change it, but cannot find it, its not in the drop
down...and even if I go and try to change the style sheets it still won't
work..

Obviously I'm missing something, doing something wrong, but I can't figure
it out!
HEeeeeLP! please! :D

Been there done that...I even went into the ms styles and tried to change it,
but not sure which one it is...there is no entry either in graphics or text
to change the nav button font color

R

Ronx

Customize theme

Click Colors, then Custom tag
Select Horizontal (or Vertical) navigation
Change the colour.
Click OK
Click Save As and use a new name.
Apply the new theme to your pages.

BINGO!
Thanks!

I forgot the FrontPage often has trouble updating changes in Themes...

For example if you change an image, even IF you remove it, to put it back in
again, it will not update using the updated image, but the one it stores,
this is the same kind of error.

I did what you said and it worked fine, thank you!

One more question, where in the stylesheets/themes can I effect the border
between the leftside shared border and center of page? I can't for the life
of me get rid of the visible border?

Thanks

Joe!

That will be in your page coding somewhere. FrontPage does not add
visible borders to shared borders - though it does add a blank 24px wide
column between left/right border and content (visible only in IE) which
will pick up the page background colour.

A link to a faulty page may help.

The border seems to come from this <td> style:
<td valign="top" width="140" style="border-left-style:none;
border-left-width:medium; border-right-style:solid;
border-right-width:1; border-top-style:none; border-top-width:medium;
border-bottom-style:none; border-bottom-width:medium">
<!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Orientation="vertical"
S-Rendering="graphics" S-Type="children" B-Include-Home="TRUE"
B-Include-Up="FALSE" startspan -->

Note the border-right-style:solid; border-right-width:1; which sets (in
IE) a border 1px wide on the right of the navigation. Other browsers
will probably ignore this, since the syntax is wrong -
should be border-right-style:solid; border-right-width:1px;

For your page, remove the entire style statement leaving <td
valign="top" width="140"><!--webbot bot="Navigation"
S-Orientation="vertical" S-Rendering="graphics" S-Type="children"
B-Include-Home="TRUE" B-Include-Up="FALSE" startspan -->

Your page is very wide - not many people have 1280px wide browsers.

Thanks Ronx:

Yea, I know it's wide, right now I'm working on this page, and I'm going to
create it for two lesser resolutions as well. I've barely even started
content or anything else at this point just trying to iron out the
aesthetics...

Is there an easy way to provide for multiple resolutions?

Gracias,

Joe

Strange the border styles being that way, that's the way they were
originally formatted in that "Highway" theme...but I'll go and fix it

Screen resolution only sets the maximum width a browser can open to. It
does not set the actual width. Example, I have a 2560x1024 monitor, my
browser is normally opened to 800x600.

There are two ways to cater for different browser widths:
1) Fixed width - design for a fixed width page, and either center it or
align it to the left of the browser. The width you choose depends on
what you know about your visitors. I design for a centred, fixed width
of 760px, which displays in 800px wide browsers with no scroll bars.
The page layout is the same for all users, but those who have wide
screens with the browser at full screen get a lot of blank space - this
not too bad at 1280x1024.

2)Floating layout - Don't set any dimensions and allow the layout to
float to the width of the browser. The page layout will vary according
to the browser width, which can lead to some problems. Using tables can
ease these problems, but watch for long lines of text which will be
difficult to read.

<td valign="top" width="140" style="border-left-style:none;
border-left-width:medium; border-right-style:solid;
border-right-width:1; border-top-style:none; border-top-width:medium;
border-bottom-style:none; border-bottom-width:medium">
<!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Orientation="vertical"
S-Rendering="graphics" S-Type="children" B-Include-Home="TRUE"
B-Include-Up="FALSE" startspan -->

Note the border-right-style:solid; border-right-width:1; which sets (in
IE) a border 1px wide on the right of the navigation. Other browsers
will probably ignore this, since the syntax is wrong -
should be border-right-style:solid; border-right-width:1px;

For your page, remove the entire style statement leaving <td
valign="top" width="140"><!--webbot bot="Navigation"
S-Orientation="vertical" S-Rendering="graphics" S-Type="children"
B-Include-Home="TRUE" B-Include-Up="FALSE" startspan -->

Your page is very wide - not many people have 1280px wide browsers.

Notice between the buttons on the left and the body of the page a white
border...
Now, this is how the theme (it was originally the Highway theme) appeared,
and I managed to remove all of the white border 'cept fer this'un! LOL

Thanks, I'd appreciate if you could find the error for me..

Good GOD you are SO much more helpful than MS "customer service" its not
EVEN funny! :D (have a great morning!)

Joe

:

That will be in your page coding somewhere. FrontPage does not add
visible borders to shared borders - though it does add a blank 24px wide
column between left/right border and content (visible only in IE) which
will pick up the page background colour.

A link to a faulty page may help.

BINGO!

Thanks

Joe!

:

Customize theme

Click Colors, then Custom tag
Select Horizontal (or Vertical) navigation
Change the colour.
Click OK
Click Save As and use a new name.
Apply the new theme to your pages.

Been there done that...I even went into the ms styles and tried to change it,
but not sure which one it is...there is no entry either in graphics or text
to change the nav button font color

:

Look at format Theme Modify/Customize
Colors - Custom Colors
or
Text - More text

|
|
| I seem to remember to be able to go into themes, modify, and one of the
| three choices and change it, but cannot find it, its not in the drop
| down...and even if I go and try to change the style sheets it still won't
| work..
|
| Obviously I'm missing something, doing something wrong, but I can't figure
| it out!
| HEeeeeLP! please! :D
