navigation bar/vertical & horizontal

I'm trying to get the navigation bar on my home page to be vertical and on the rest of the pages, it be horizontal. However, whenever I change one page, it changes all the rest of the pages so that they're either all horizontal or all vertical. i'm using a generic theme from frontpage 2000. any help would be greatly appreciated!

You will have to move it out of the shared border and insert directly on your page.
