Can't change shortcut icon

Click the Start button then click on "Run.." then type the following :
\Windows\regedit.exe
Click OK or Press Enter
When Registry Editor opens, expand "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" [Don't use Find]
Click ".url" in left side and note the value of "Default" and past back
Now scroll down and expand "InternetShortcut" then click on "DefaultIcon"
Note the value of "Default" and post here

Look in Folder Options, File Types tab, and anywhere that the IE icon
appears, make sure that Firefox is referenced, change the icon to the
Firefox icon.

Hi Joe, TY...
If my present conversation eiyh Ayush doesn't fix things I will try this,
but I will need to gey help here as I cannot see to read this (or simila)r
pane.

If only there were some way to change/increase these!

What are the full names of the 3 available Firefox icon files and their
extensions?
Where should they be located?

I ask because I cannot find the files

The icons are in firefox.exe file. It is normally located here :

Searching that file for *.ico finds nothing however.

I searched the whole of the drive this way also but found no Firefox related
icon
(This is why I asked for dtails)
Different suffix maybe?
Mind you, I can't find the IE on either, but as it is *uninstalled*
anyway...

How about if I delete and rebuild the whole icon cache?

(I do't know how to tho....)

Should I just give up the whole unequal struggle ? <g>

You cant search files within files. WHere you want the icon ?

1. If you want the icon on folder :
Right click folder > Properties > Customize tab
Click Change icon > Click Browse.. button
Locate the firefox.exe file > This will show you the icons then you can select.

2. If you want the icon for a file association :
Control panel > Folder options
File types tab > select the file extension then click on "Advanced" button
Click "Change icon" > Browse for firefox.exe then select the icon

3. If you want to extract the icon then i will suggest you : "icon sushi" :

You cant search files within files.

Been there, done that many times . (Internet Icon and url) (using a 10x
magnifier)
It goes throgh all the motions apparently ok, but NO CHANGE actually takes
place.

I have created a new icon wuth Microangelo, and then jumped through all the
hoops to associate it.
The end result is as above :-(((

I search Drive *C* for *.url and they all are the big *e*

Click any one, Properties > Chamge Icon, and I get offered 3 different
Firefox icons, pick any 1, ok and apply my way out.....big *e* still !!
If I move it to the Recycle Bin it appears there as a Firefox icon. f I then
drag it to the desktop or anyehere else..big *e*

I need to give the big *e* the *big E*, if you see what I mean <g>
