I am trying to change the "unknown icon" (the white square with a
smaller square inside it) to show the Firefox icon in my URL shortcuts
via Folder Options / File Types.

The "URL Internet Shortcut" file type that is listed in File Types is
listed this way: [Firefox icon] (NONE) "Internet Shortcut".

The only other URL listed is listed this way: [white icon] "URL
File".

At this point, none of my URL shortcuts work. How do I get the
original entry back so that I can change the icon?

Thank you.

Is Firefox your default browser?

Yes, it is. Opera had been my default browser but I'm in the process
of switching to Firefox and have now set Firefox as my default
browser.

I probably should have added that I currently have three browsers
installed right now -- Internet Explorer, Opera (which used to be my
default browser) and Firefox. As soon as I feel comfortable with
Firefox I plan on uninstalling Opera.
