cant change settings on screen

Hello.

ive just installed my ATi Radeon 9800 Pro, but i have problems with the
screen settings
it wont make any changes!
i dont know the settings im stuck in, but when i choose another
resolution-setting, nothing happens at all, and the "do you want to keep this
settings" thing pops up..

please help :(
