Can't change IE7 link icons

Guest

When I installed IE7, all the desktop links that had customized icons turned
into plain IE7 icons. I have tried to customize the links, but the normal
method (Properties, Change Icon, Browse etc.) doesn't work. How can I change
the icons on IE7 links? Thanks very much.

Solution 1 :
1) Open Properties of shortcut and change the icon.
2) Click Apply and close the window.
3) Open the properties of shortcut again then go to General tab.
4) Tick "Read-Only" and click OK

Solution 2 :
1) Right click Desktop and choose Properties
2) Go to Appearance tab and click on Effects button.
3) Uncheck "Use Large icons" and click OK twice.

Thanks, Ayush. Solution 2 worked. Now I can change the small icons. I still
can't change the large ones. Should I just give up, or is there someplace
else to look for an answer?

Solution 2 does not work here and the problem with Solution 1 is that
Shortcuts
do not have a Properties tab, only a General tab!

I must correct myself. Solution 2 did work on second try. As for Solution 1
the Shortcuts do have Properties but then only a General tab with no Change
Icon tab.
