Can't Burn Video to DVD+R Disc

With WIN XP Home Ed, SP2. On my GW Desktop computer: 1) DVD Rewritable; 2)
DVD Multi Recorder; 3) Compact Disc Rewritable.

Placed Memorex DVD+R Recordable/Enregistrable, 8X, in D Drive. At drop down
menu clicked on" CD cy", selected mpg file frm My Pictures--msg "Windows
encountered a problem when trying to copy this file--retry/cancel?"

Turned IMAP CD Burning in "services" frm manual to automatic (right or wrong?)
Now, frm what I am reading here, do I have to have a third-party (?) such as
a Nero program, in order to burn my videos to this DVD+R disc--or is this
another one of those Windows firewall problems?
Pls explain in terms that an 80-yr-old greatgrandmother can understand.
Thanx everyone!

AHA! This ? only came to mind by reading some of the posts such as the reply
frm Carey who said to go to "My Computer" and see what "removable disc
storage" was shown. Sure 'nuf, mine showed "DVD-RAM drive" but not DVD-RW!

As I said, I have those 3 disc drives printed on my computer, but now I feel
that the lower/larger bay is probably for installation of the DVD; am I right?
So it looks like the computer service man needs to come back and do that for
me, then a purchase of one of the Nero products (with so many listed at their
site I don't know which; however, posts seem to be using Nero 6.)
Thanx again and I may be back at this site.

(What's a young guy like you doing up at 4:30 AM on his computer? An earache
too? So thanks for such a prompt reply).
