Can't Burn CDs

Hi,

I have a Windows XP SP2 and the most recent version of Windows Media Player.
Everytime I try to burn a CD, though, it never works. It says that it cannot
write the files to the CD.

I'd read that that meant to lower the speed, which I did...it burned two
songs and stopped. (Those CDs aren't readable, either) I've been to the
update site and it doesn't have anything related to burning CDs.

Do I just need to buy the software? If so, which one? Or do I need a drive
(it says I have one, though.)

Thank you.

Luke,

It could be either the drive of the the software is having an issue. You
need to troubleshoot the issue if it's just Mediaplayer or does the software
that came with the computer work? Has it ever worked before and when did it
stop did you install some new software? You could test a few things and see
what the deal is.

You said it wouldn't burn at all, then you lowered the speed and it burned
two songs, this could be a clue, although you didn't say what speed you
started with and lowered to, you need specify as many details as possible .
how bout errors, nothing was mentioned as to errors displayed, and exact
wording here is necessary.
burning cd's usually encounters buffer overruns, and or buffer underruns,
both are data transfer speed related, one is not enough speed, the other is
too fast. quality of media is also an area to look at, check that your cd's
good enough quality for the speed you have selected.
post back with details thanks

Well I don't know all the specifics but a suggestion would be to go to
Microsoft's website and use the troubleshooting articles. Enter Windows
Media player in the search box at the top right to search the Microsoft site.
Then read all the FAQS. If that doesn't work you can download the manual in
Word format which has a troubleshooting section. Also what kind of discs are
you using? Microsoft suggests lowering the speed and trying different disc
brands for this issue. Perhaps going from CDRW to CDR. What are the speed
specs on the disc. If it is only up to 48x then lower the speed to that. Let
me know if this helps.

Kaja
