Can't browse from start menu

I made a shortcut to the C drive from the start menu by
dragging the drive from My Computer. I can drill down the
directory tree but when I doubleclick on the one I want to
open it does not open. The menu goes away and nothing
happens. It does work on W2K and other WinXP machines. But
not on mine. Any idea why?
 
In MyComputer rt click on your Drive Icon and select create shortcut.
You will get a dialog box asking you
if you want to create one on the desktop say yes.
