can't boot

Working on removing a search redirector trojan I checked the box in msconfig
so the computer will reboot in safe mode per Symantec. When rebooting in safe
mode it gave me a error message of "IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL" then stops
booting. This just keeps on happening as I can't boot to windows to uncheck
the box in msconfig. Symantec is trying to help but their solutions have not
helped yet. Some things tried are renaming windows temp folder, running
chdisk in recovery counsel, copy userinit.exe with wsaupdater.exe from
recovery counsel. Have tried to install xp over top of itself but msconfig
keeps trying to send to safe mode then error message. Windows can't use a
restore point from the recovery counsel so I can't restore. It can boot from
windows xp CD or from floppy.

Thanks for the suggestion but doing this must not replace the setting in
msconfig because it just causes it to boot to safe mode then the same blue
screen of death. If I ever get to windows xp will try to start with a repair
install for I have done this.
