Good Afternoon,
I have a workstation in my office that is a Dell Dim. 2400, with a Dell 18"
Flat Screen monitor.
The user was reading/writing an email and sometime afterwards the screen
went blank.
They didn't see an error message or anything.
Well the machine will no longer boot in normal mode. I see the initial
Windows XP screen for a few seconds, then it goes blank. I don't see the
login screen at all. And the monitor is dead. I hooked the monitor up to
another machine and no lights, no nothing. So the monitor is dead.
I pulled another monitor that's working and hooked it up to the problem Dell
Dim. 2400. It still won't boot in normal mode. I tried running last known
good configuration, but still won't boot. But I can boot in Safe mode with
or without network support. When in safe mode, I can access
applications/browse internet/view file folders, so it appears my data is
still there and in tact. Once in safe mode I tried restoring from a restore
point 1-2 weeks ago, but it still can't boot. As before I see the initial
Windows XP screen pop up for a few seconds, but then the screen goes blank
and I don't see a login screen. I do see the Hard Drive light running.
Any ideas? I'm wondering if maybe the flat screen monitor and the video card
shorted out one another somehow or something. It may or may not be a video
issue. I do know that the 18" monitor isn't working now. I can troubleshoot
the machine with another monitor.
I tried calling dell, because I bought the computer a few months ago. They
want me to re-install XP or repair XP which could cause me to lose some
files.
This is my bosses computer, so it's urgent that I get this thing fixed.
