Cant Boot into XP, get almost there and machine reboots

S

Scott Townsend

I have a WinXP Installation that boots as follows:

Power on
POST BIOS Stuff
WinXP Logo with Blue Progress bar
This screen takes forever to get past and the progress bar stops at
times.
Then for a brief moment, the Good familiar Blue screen (Not BSOD) appears.
Then poof, the machine reboots.
End less Cycle

If I try Safe Mode. It gets to the MUP file and stops, I may not have waited
long enough though.

I can boot from the XP CD and get to a Recovery Console, though I dont know
what to do from there.

Thanks,
Scott<-

Try booting into "safe mode". If that doesn't work, you may have a hardware
issue (could be power supply, CPU, mobo, RAM...)

Give it some time and see if it doesn't eventually load in Safe Mode. If it
does you can go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and
Recovery and disable 'Automatically Restart' under System Failure. Once you
do this, look in the system log for any errors and make a note of what they
are, then restart normally and get the data from the stop error. That
should give you a clue as to root cause.
