can't add a printer

When i go to control panel and printing and faxing option
and press on add printer it gives me a error "operation
could not be completed". I'm trying to install the Canon
S300 which came with the computer. Running under home
edition. Please anybody with any suggestion write back
asap. Thanks

Ensure you're logged on as the Administrator or a User with Admin rights.

Canon printers are particularly fussy about having their softare installed
BEFORE you even think about connecting the printer to the PC.

Uninstall any software for the printer that may have gotten installed by
using the instructions at:
http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article One.htm

Download a new set of XP S300 drivers from the Canon website at:
http://tinyurl.com/j2xt

Run the software and do NOT connect the printer until it tells you to.
