Can't access Updates after changing security programs

Guest

I installed Trend Micro PC cillin, which deleted all the Norton security I had.
Now I cant access Microsoft Updates. I have tried to re register or re
install using the web page, but it doesnt work and just takes me back to the
menu asking me to select the register/reinstall button which is recommended.
The Trend Micro program showed i needed updates, but also cant connect to
download them either.
I would like to download updates regularly as before, which i could with
Norton with no problem.
I have XP Home Edition.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I suspect the problem arose because Norton wasn't uninstalled before Trend
was installed. I would suggest going to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel,
and make sure that BOTH are fully removed, restart the computer, then try
installing Trend again.

If you still can't get rid of remnants of Norton, there is a remover-tool on
the Symantec site.

There is also a possibility that a broken Layered Service Provider is the
cause. A program called LSPFix can be found on various sites which will fix
this.

DO use with caution as it's possible to do further damage if you don't read
the instructions!

Thanks Ian,
Whilst I thought Norton had been fully removed, I just checked and there was
a small program left in the list.
