can't access excel custom views

The custom view toolbar block allows me to add names for views but they do
not alter the views when selected. The Custom View entry on the View Menu is
grayed out does not respond. What do I need to do to get Custom Views
activated?

Do you have more than one worksheet selected? Do you see [group] up on the
title bar?
